With the Potomac River running alongside Washington DC, it gives the city a nice long waterfront.
This photograph was taken at East Potomac Park, which is actually an island that’s connected to DC by roads. Part of the island is the site of the Jefferson Memorial. The main part of the island though is actually for East Potomac Park which has a golf course. A road runs along the outside perimeter of the island and there are lots of picnic tables and benches to sit and enjoy the view. If you go during a nice day the roads will have LOTS of bicyclists riding on them since there’s very little car traffic. The bike riders always seem to group together in a pack, so if you are sitting watching them, it’s like a swarm of bees riding by!
On the other side of the water pictured here is Maine Avenue Fish Market. It’s an open air fish market that you can go to and purchase fresh seafood. You can also get whatever you purchase cooked at the market too. So if you want to get a bushel of steamed crabs, not a problem they can do it for you!
If you are coming to DC for a visit, definitely checkout all the tourist stops, but you might want to always squeeze in a visit to East Potomac Park. Don’t have to spend a lot of time, can even just drive through it. The views from there are nice, might want to add it to your list of things to do and see while here.
