During the early morning hours the area around the National Gallery of Art on the mall is pretty quiet.
Walking around the National Mall in the early morning hours before the sun has come up is a much different experience than during the day. During the day on the weekends the mall is filled with people walking around going to the various museums and art galleries. And if there’s some event going on at the mall, it’s packed full of people even more! But during the early morning hours it’s the exact opposite. There’s hardly another person around. But once it starts to get first light, the joggers start to come out and you won’t be alone anymore.
This photograph was taken along Madison Dr as the sun was starting to light up the sky. I was lucky, it was one of those mornings where the open areas of sky take on a nice blue hue while the patches of clouds take on a pink color. It doesn’t last that long, maybe only a couple of minutes. And it doesn’t happen every morning, but when it does it’s a really nice sight to see!
