If you go to the US Capitol early in the morning you can get a nice reflection in the water. But, you have to get there before the ducks wake-up!
Very early in the morning when the sky is still dark, the water in the reflecting pool in front of the US Capitol is very calm. If you look around the pool you’ll see that the ducks that are normally swimming in the water are mostly napping. As the sun starts to approach the horizon the sky starts to change to a deep blue color. As the sun gets closer the sky changes to a lighter blue color. It’s during this time that the ducks decide it’s time for breakfast. If you are lucky, they will stay to the sides of the pool. If you aren’t so lucky, they will continually float across the reflection of the dome in the water – ruining the mirror image! Luckily the morning of this photograph they decided to stay to the sides long enough for me to capture the scene.
