Today the Washington Monument greeted you with a cool blue morning.
A photograph of the quad at American University as the sun is slowly setting.
I took this photograph of the Tidal Basin earlier this week in the afternoon – one of the few times we had some nice sunshine and blue sky!
The Lincoln Memorial statue can be difficult to photograph. The chamber of the memorial is fairly dark compared to the statue which is brightly illuminated. The statue is carved from Georgia white marble. The white marble reflects so much light that the details are either washed out or if you try to capture the bright details the surrounding chamber is completely black. Luckily there is a way to photograph the statue to capture all its detail.
The scaffolding is fully erected on the Washington Monument now to repair the damage from the VA earthquake that happened in August of 2011.
About a month ago I was contacted by Mari asking if I would do an engagement photo shoot for her and her fiancée Ron. They had come across my work on facebook and really liked what I had there so wanted to see if I’d do an engagement shoot for them. We set everything up through email and a couple of weeks ago we finally met at the Tidal Basin for the photo shoot.
Today has been a beautiful day in Washington DC! Sunshine, blue skies, and nice white clouds. It’s been a welcome change from this past week with the on and off rain and overcast days.
Maybe a nice picture of a sunrise over DC will get the weather to change a little and give us some nice days in DC!
This past Saturday my wife and I went out to Skyline Drive in the morning to catch the sunrise. Didn’t get a good photograph of the sunrise, but captured the rolling clouds coming down the mountain to the valley below.
This will be the last of the cherry blossom pictures for this year! Although since it was so early in the morning the blossoms aren’t that easy to see.
